Hey guys, it's Chris. Welcome back! Today, we're going to be going over some tips and tricks for basic shaping. We will be covering stiletto, almond, coffin (aka ballerina), and last but not least, the elegant tapered square. I will be going into detail with each style, so if you're interested in nailing these shapes, stay tuned. Okay, now that she is all nice and sanitized and clean, we're gonna go ahead with our nail prep. The first thing that you want to do is push back the client's cuticles. The reason we do this is to get any dead, dry skin away from the nail bed. If you have dry skin on your nail bed when you're applying your acrylic, it's gonna cause lifting. I prefer using a cuticle pusher to push back the cuticles rather than cutting them. You never want to cut living tissue. You can cause damage to the cuticle or your client, and you can harm them. After pushing back the cuticle, I'm gonna go in with my medium grit sanding band, and I'm gonna lightly buff the nail plate. This removes the natural shine from your client's nail. So when you're filing off the natural shine, you're gonna want to use a low speed on your e-file. You just lightly want to kiss the top of the nail. Although I am using an e-file, you can do this with hand filing. But you want to make sure that you're using a 180 medium grit file. The 240 buffer would be a little too fine, and you don't want to use a coarse file on natural nails. And you don't want to put any pressure, just take it lightly.
