Hello, this is Heath again from Student Loan Insider. Today, I will go over how to complete the in-school deferment form. First, let's go ahead and review what you would do with the deferment form if you have left school. At any point where the school has confirmed that you will not be attending at least half time, you would need to use the form to demonstrate that you are still enrolled at least half time in order to qualify for a deferment. The preferred method for schools to update this information is through the National Student Loan Database System or the National Student Clearinghouse. However, you will still need to take the form to your school and have them complete it. As always, start by filling out section one with your personal information. Then, indicate whether you are enrolled full-time or at least half-time in your school's determination. If you are a parent borrowing a Federal PLUS loan on behalf of a student, mark the appropriate stating that the loan was disbursed on or after July 1st and that you are also a student. In this case, you are simply requesting a deferment rather than a Prudential deferment. This form is relatively easy as you only need to indicate whether or not you want interest to accrue during the deferment period. I usually don't recommend having interest accrue unless you are unable to make payments. Sign and date the form. Now, it's your school's turn. Make sure the school completes the necessary sections accurately, including the start and end dates of the deferment period and your expected completion date of the program.
