There's one time of year that sees the highest number of people renouncing their US citizenship, and it's tax time, Louis. Last year, close to 1,800 people followed Superman's lead and renounced their US citizenship or green cards, which is a record number since the IRS started publishing those numbers back in 1998. It's almost eight times more than the number that renounced in 2008. Many say that this is really for tax reasons. People on both sides may want to argue when it's their opponent in power or at least in the president's seat in the White House, but it's for political reasons. But really, it's not. It's mostly just because of tax reasons. If you're living overseas and you're planning on staying overseas by maintaining American citizenship, you have to file additional taxes and do a ton of paperwork. It's all basically done by hand, no online versions. It really does sound like a nightmare. Yeah, I'm glad I don't have to deal with that. But is it really that bad that you have to renounce your citizenship? From what I've read, it is that bad.
